I've known this guy since birth. He's been a strong Catholic and a very close friend of his entire life. Recently, he has fallen in with a bad crowd. He went from being a Catholic to a full blown Satanist. As crazy as it sounds, he believes he truly is a vampire. He's tried to kill somebody else I know. He's attempted suicide six times. A couple times somebody found him unconscious and took him to the ER. This all happened almost overnight. Recently, on his Facebook page, he posted that "if someone wants me around, just say so because if not I'm gone". Well, he's still here, just hopeless, as one would expect from months of worshiping Satan.
Please keep him in your prayers. I need prayers too because I have to deal with this situation every day. It wears you down after a while. God bless --Joe

John, Interesting project! Just a question: You are working with Rahlfs. Have you referenced Ziegler's Duodecim Prophetae?

What would be the best way to promote Catholicism at nominal catholic Colleges?
I have documented a few isues as they transpired at my college. They can be found at www.deopaxchristi.blogspot.com Scroll down to the Lourdes tag and click on it to pull up posts. Any other suggestions would be helpful. Next week a Jesus Seminar Fellow is coming to campus. The JS basically denies the divinity of Christ. The Theology Department Head - a nun- is VP of the College Theological Society. The CTS published a position paper denying the infallibility of the Pope concerning the ordination of women. She states she doesn't have the Mandatum per Ex Corde Exclessia nor requires it of her department professors.

Just saying hello and introducing myself. I have spent my whole life as a Catholic living in lay Catholic community called The People of Hope in New Jersey. I am currently a Junior at the school run by the People of Hope, Koinonia Academy. I have never seen a group of Catholics who live their faith like these men and women do. There are communities like this all over the world. If you want to meet a bunch of Catholics who live their faith and aren't afraid to proclaim it, look into one God bless, and I'll be around.
No I'm not a paid recruiter:-) Links http://www.peopleofhope.net/index.html http://www.koinoniaacademy.org/index.html

im Roman Catholic deployed in Congo for peace operations. I never took Daniel and Revelation literally until a SDA attack me saying that the Roman Catholic Church (whore of Babylone) and the Pope (666,VICARIVS FILII DEI) are the prophecies in the bible.I got a bible but no other resources except internet to find out about Danial/Revelations. Protestants continuouslysly accusing the RCC and the Pope on the internet and I need someone to explain to me in a Roman Catholic teaching about Danial and Revelation. Request if there is any sites to be given to me on the internet defending the RCC and Pope and explain in details about Danial and John's prophecy in accordance of RCC teaching.
My question is, did Danial prophecy already occurred before Revelation? and Revelation occurred in the 1st century or still aocurring since 538 AD till present time? If Danial/Revelations already occurred, who was the guilty nations/people in the prophecy? If you say that Revelation already occurred and fulfilled, why are we still waiting for a new heaven and earth and the temple of God to come down from heaven? |

worship for me is the acknowledgement of God's supreme excellence and the expression of man's submission to his absolute dominions. It is the honor with an acknowledgement of dependence given to a higher being. We worship God because He is our creator, our supreme benefactor that from Him we have received everything and it is to Him that we are going, our ultimate end.. hope this is acceptable.

I'm having some troubles with this, I don't think this reading is getting through to me, I don't think I've learned anything. How should I read this? What I do now is read the chapter than read all the commentary, is this the wrong approach? Could somone give me an idea on how to go about this?
Pax, Zach P.S. I pray before reading this stuff.

verses 4-15.
1. Why would it have been strange for Jesus to have asked a Samaritan woman for a drink of water? The Samaritans and the Jews despised each other. Jews considered Samaritans ritually impure, especially the women. A Jewish rabbi would scarcely even waste time speaking to a Jewish woman, let alone a Samaritan woman. We also know this woman was an adulterer and because she came to the well alone at an odd time, rather than with other women, she was probably not well-liked or respected even in her own community. The water of the Samaritans was also considered unclean. In his book, St. John's Gospel, Stephen Ray claims that at that time, to drink the water from a Samaritan well was worse than drinking pig's blood! So asking her for a drink was definitely *not* the cultural norm at the time. 2. Who is called a fountain of living water in Jeremiah 2:13 and 17:13? What implications does that have for our verses? In these verses God Himself is referred to as the living water. That Jesus is the Son of God; that he is divine. But the woman misunderstands him, thinking he is speaking of running water. 3. How does the water of Jesus become a well of water springing up to eternal life? In what ways have you drunk from the water of Jesus? The water can have 2 meanings here, either the revelation that Jesus gives or the Spirit he gives to us. Either way, by following his gospel, we are giving the chance to enjoy eternal life. I probably need to drink more of the water! I think that the Eucharist is a wonderful way to drink the water - either through receiving the sacrament or through adoration. Through reading and studying scripture, developing a deeper prayer life and engaging in more community service, we can all drink more of the water.

verses 16-24.
1. What causes the woman to call Jesus a prophet? Because Jesus revealed the hidden things in her life and assumed that He knew by revelation. 2. What does Jesus mean in verse 22 when he says "salvation is from the Jews?" Psalm 76:1 and Romans 1:16 may be helpful. Because the true knowledge and worship of God, which leads men to salvation, formerly emanated from the Jews. 3. These verses emphasize worship, especially worship in Spirit and in truth. Define worship and describe the meaning of worship in Spirit and in truth. The catechism of the Catholic Church says, 2096 Adoration is the first act of the virtue of religion. To adore God is to acknowledge him as God, as the Creator and Savior, the Lord and Master of everything that exists, as infinite and merciful Love. "You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve," says Jesus, citing Deuteronomy. Also the CCC says, 1179 The worship "in Spirit and in truth"of the New Covenant is not tied exclusively to any one place. The whole earth is sacred and entrusted to the children of men. What matters above all is that, when the faithful assemble in the same place, they are the "living stones," gathered to be "built into a spiritual house." For the Body of the risen Christ is the spiritual temple from which the source of living water springs forth: incorporated into Christ by the Holy Spirit, "we are the temple of the living God." |

1. What can we learn about Nicodemus from these verses?
He was honest, and he was a Rabbi and teacher of the Law. 2. Why do you think Nicodemus did not understand Jesus' statement about being born again and asked the question of verse 4? He did not see the spiritual meaning behind it, he mistakingly was taking it literally. 3. What do you think Jesus meant when he said in verse 5, "Unless a person be born of water and of the Spirit, he is not able to enter the kingdom? Obviously it means that you need to be baptized to be saved.

1. In what ways does Jesus' mother demonstrate her confidence in him?
I just love this story. She knows that Jesus will take care of things and she doesn't nag or go into a long explanation of things. She is simple and to the point: "Do whatever he tells you." Good advice! 2. Verse 11 states that Jesus revealed his glory in the sign done at Cana. Describe how these verses illustrate John 1:14. John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we saw his glory, the glory as of the Father's only Son, full of grace and truth. Even though Jesus was God incarnate, to the world, he looked like a regular guy. The signs he performed are what revealed his true identity as the Son of God, the Savior. 3. Many scholars believe John 2:1-11 is "parable in life." Read Matthew 9: 14-17 and describe how the action of Jesus in John 2:1-11 illustrates the passage in Matthew. This one has me stumped.

I want to answer the life application questions.
1. Identify one or two new thoughts that seemed important to you. I have read and studied this chapter many times so I did not come up with any new thoughts this time, but one thing that I never miss in this chapter is that St. John makes very clear the Deity of Christ in verses 1 and 14, "the Word was God.... and he became flesh and dwelt among us." Jesus is God! 2. Select a truth for which you see a particular personal application in your own life. Describe how it would apply to you. Philip urged Nathanael to come and see Jesus. That makes a good model for us to tell people to come and see Jesus at Mass!

Wise words Betty! I have seen people reject Christ for years or even completely because of the sorry witness of those who call themselves Christians. This Name that we have been given called "Christian" is a name that brings hope and joy to our lives but also brings a massive responsibilty that everyone one of us should drop to our knees everyday and pray for the grace to hold up to it.

What a humbling statement! I like what Theophylact said about this, "For few are saved and found worthy to be chosen by God. For it is God’s part to call, but to become one of the chosen or not, is our part. He shows, then, that this parable was spoken for the Jews who were called but were not chosen, as they did not listen."

A statement that the Blessed Theophylact made really struck me concerning how Christ meets people where they are. Theophylact said, "Marvel at how wisely the Lord arranges our salvation, drawing to Himself each one by means of the things that are his own and with which he is familiar. As He had attracted the Magi with a star, so now He draws the fishermen by means of fish."

I read some of the commentary on this passage. I found Ambrosiaster's comments to be very good, it is found in the "Ancient Christian Commentators." I like how he explained how we receive the Holy Spirit and it remains in us, but when we stray away from our new life in Christ then the Spirit departs from us, but when we repent then the Spirit comes back in us.
I have always been impressed Ambrosiaster. |
